Book Signings and Friends
It’s a long way from accademia, art, and connoisseurship to book signings. I can see why so many book stores don’t do them any more. Writing workshops spring up faster than mushrooms after the rain and budding writers, like me, flood the market with books that nobody wants to buy.
True? My reader, be the judge, but please be honest.
Don’t you already have a stack of books tall enough on your night table? Acclaimed, better reviewed, and so much more glorified books, than our junk auctioned off and forgotten even before it formally appears.
And all the while, the great literary masterminds churn out their new bestsellers. Don’t we love them? We support them.
I did a booksigning, a few days ago, after dilligent publicity and fine local write-up.
Guess who showed up? Guess again.
You’re so right. Only people who I didn’t even know were my friends and supporters.
How important is it to be seen and heard? Very.
Not really. No entirely.
That’s when I look back and count all the wonderful new friends I made while writing and marketing my Maddalena.
I wish I had more space in my garden. It's getting quite filled up. You see, every time a new friend finds a soft spot in my heart, I plant a bush, a tree, or even a beautiful flower. Some of these have faded away, just like those people in my life who are not there when I need them. But there is a new holly tree in my garden: Victor Vittoria, for Victor Gulotta, the shining and dedicated promoter of Maddalena, working quietly behind the scene to make room for a book whose beautiful illustrations alone should warm your hearts.
And there is also Maddalena’s tale. Won’t you read about her, my friends and new readers?
